Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everyone can benefit from. It can stand alone as a therapy and has no harmful side effects, yet it is also complementary to other therapies and treatment.

What to expect
You will be asked to remove your shoes and to lie on a heated massage couch with soft blankets to keep you warm. The room will have soft lighting, candles, the aroma of essential oils and soothing music, creating the perfect space for you to unwind and switch off from whatever is happening in your life.

The treatment will last 50 minutes and involves the practitioner placing their hands lightly on or over specific areas of the head, limbs, and torso for between 2 and 5 minutes at a time. You can ask for some aromatherapy massage to be combined with this treatment – e.g. it could be combined with a foot and hand massage.

It is not uncommon to fall asleep during the treatment and, by the end, you will be left feeling deeply relaxed and recharged.
